Die North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nordatlantikpakt) wurde 1949 gegründet. Das Verteidigungsbündnis der USA und Kanadas hatte zunächst 10 westeuropäische, heute 26 Mitgliedstaaten (AL, B, BG, CZ, D, DK, E, EST, F, GB, GR, H, HR, I, IS, L, LT, LV, NL, N, P, PL, RO, SK, SLO, TR).
